Project scope
CBD Ciledug Family Mall is the retail anchor of the Central Business District development on Jalan HOS Cokroaminoto in Karang Tengah, Tangerang. Prawita Karya installed twenty-four SJEC escalators, twenty travelators and five elevators. At forty-nine units of moving equipment in a single building it remains the largest escalator and travelator package the company has installed anywhere, and it was the project Prawita Karya put on its stand at the Indonesia Lift & Escalator Expo in 2016. The mall runs to roughly 20,000 m² over five floors, with shop units built around it as part of the wider CBD Ciledug development. Twenty travelators in a building that size is the figure worth pausing on: inclined moving walks exist in retail so a shopper can keep a loaded trolley with them between levels, which an escalator cannot do.
Challenge
This was Prawita Karya's first large project. Forty-nine units of moving equipment in a single contract brought programme pressure the company had not worked under before, and the installation had to be coordinated with several other vendors working the same building at the same time.
Solution
Preparation, holding to the timeline, and close project management. On that basis the installation ran smoothly despite the size of the package and the number of trades on site.
Result
Handed over on time. Trade in the area has since moved to newer centres, but the package remains the largest escalator and travelator installation Prawita Karya has delivered in a single building, and the company asked for it to stay on the record.
