Project scope

Ramayana is one of Indonesia's largest department store chains, trading in regional cities as well as the major ones. The work here is a programme rather than a single building: more than eighty SJEC escalators and more than twenty elevators, installed across twenty-two Ramayana stores nationwide — Klender, Kramat Jati, Pasar Minggu, Cakung, Depok, Bogor, Cibinong, Parung, Tajur, Cikupa, Cibadak, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Padalarang, Pekalongan, Solo, Kediri, Pekanbaru, Lampung, Pontianak, Samarinda and Sorong. Standardising a chain on one manufacturer is a maintenance decision as much as a supply one: the same spare parts and the same technician training apply in every store. The twenty-two stores reach from Klender in East Jakarta to Sorong in West Papua, taking in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi on the way, and span all three of Indonesia's time zones.

Challenge

Twenty-two stores spread from Jakarta to West Papua meant a different site, a different city and often a different working culture each time. Access varied from one store to the next, deadlines were tight, and conditions rarely repeated closely enough for a single method to carry across the whole programme.

Solution

Rather than apply one template everywhere, the team worked the approach out store by store with the people on site, looking for the most effective and efficient method for that particular building.

Result

Ramayana has been Prawita Karya's longest-standing client relationship, running since 2008 and still going. Prawita Karya continues to maintain the equipment across the stores, and the company counts the working relationships built over the programme among what it got out of it.
